Becoming a Better Diver

Fundamentals 3 days
Diver in horizontal trim holding a camera light, hovering above a large school of orange anthias over a reef

A personalised skills review and targeted improvement programme. You arrive with your existing diving. You leave knowing exactly what it looks like, and what to do about the gaps.

This is not a standard course with a fixed curriculum. It is a structured assessment of where your diving currently stands — buoyancy, trim, propulsion, gas consumption, situational awareness, and decision-making — followed by targeted in-water sessions on your specific weaknesses.

Most divers never receive honest feedback on their diving. Buddies don't comment on your trim. Dive guides are managing the group. This programme provides the assessment, the direct feedback, and the practice time to actually change something.

Who This Programme Is For

  • Any certified diver who wants to know what their diving actually looks like
  • Divers who have been diving for years but feel something is still not working properly
  • Divers returning after a gap who want a skills rebuild
  • Underwater photographers and videographers who need refined positioning and control
  • Anyone preparing for technical training who wants a foundation assessment first

Prerequisites

  • Any diving certification
  • No minimum dives required

Programme Structure

Day 1 — Skills Inventory

A full in-water skills inventory covering buoyancy, trim, propulsion, gas consumption, awareness, and decision-making. The day ends with an honest debrief — the kind most divers have never had.

What you do here is what you already do on every dive. The difference is that someone is watching it carefully, recording it, and going to tell you exactly what they saw.

Day 2 — Targeted Drills

Drill sessions address each weakness directly, with a debrief after each session. Specific patterns. Specific feedback. Repetitions until the habit shifts.

This is the day that actually changes something. The assessment is only useful if the drilling that follows is precise and honest.

Day 3 — Realistic Application

Apply the work to realistic dive conditions. The day ends with a final debrief and written development roadmap.

You leave with a written assessment of what is working, what is not, and priority improvements, plus a personalised roadmap of specific courses or practice that would give you the most return.

Common Questions

How is this different from just doing more dives?

More dives means more practice of your current habits, including the bad ones. This programme provides honest external assessment and targeted feedback. Most divers never receive that in normal diving.

What if the assessment reveals my diving is worse than I thought?

That is the point. Accurate assessment is the most valuable outcome. The programme then gives you the specific information and practice needed to improve. Divers consistently describe it as the course that changed their diving the most.

Can I take this course if I am preparing for technical training?

Yes, and it is strongly recommended as preparation. Knowing exactly where your foundations stand before entering technical training is far better than discovering gaps at 40 metres.

What Comes Next?

Assessment complete and gaps identified? The fundamentals courses address them specifically — Buoyancy & Trim, Propulsion Workshop, Decompression Theory, Dive Planning, and more.
